Range Report: Awesome Target Edition
Posted by Lissa on November 27, 2009
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! On Thanksgiving Day I gave thanks for friends and family, who love me unconditionally. I was too busy giving thanks by feeding C and baking bread and pie and stuff like that to post, but I’m also thankful for my readers — who encourage me, challenge me, and accompany me on this awesome and silly journey called LissaLife.
And now — the big reveal! Story and picture below the fold:
Growing up, we had two cats — Misty and Gypsy. (Okay, I named Misty at age 13, and LilBro 1 was all of six, so no ragging on the names!) Misty lived a good long life, but she got very sick at the end; she was terribly skinny and very stressed.
But that wasn’t why she died. She died because a fisher cat got her.
After she’d been missing for a day, my stepfather started door-to-dooring. My folks made up “Missing” posters and everything. Eventually, my stepfather knocked on the door of a woman who said that she’d had three or four cat bodies left on her property over the last couple months. And yes, the most recent one was just last week. She’d taken a photograph before Animal Control came to take the body away, and brought it out so Stepdad could identify our poor sweet cat.
What was left of her, anyway.
She had a wonderful, cherished and very spoiled life, but the whole family has always hated and despised that her last moments would have been filled with terror.
And so, in her honor, this is what I used as a range target today:
The target was made at my special request by the most incredibly awesome Stoaty! She was nice enough to
A) not think that my hesitant request for a fisher cat target was batsh*t crazy
B) ask me carefully what I wanted to make sure I’d love it
C) make me the fabulous, fantastic, wonderful target you see above, in
D) FREAKING NO TIME FLAT.
It was unbelievable. I was running around SQUEE’ing in whispers so people wouldn’t think I was flat-out insane.
I like the look of this target better:
Take that, fisher cat!!!!!!
