Holster FAIL. Gun safety FAIL. Darwin FAIL. General FAIL.

Posted by Lissa on August 25, 2009

At the gym this morning I was treated to an exclusive interview with Plaxico Burress, explaining how he managed to shoot himself in the leg.  Yes, I know you’re all jealous.  Don’t hate me, I think my lower abdominal muscles are still ripped from the inclined crunches I did last week.

So it turns out that brilliant Mr. Burress had stuck his gun into his jeans.  While walking up the stairs to the VIP room the gun started to slide down his leg.  Feeling this, Burress paused and grabbed for the gun, managing to snag the trigger through his jeans and shoot himself.

Gun nuts, you want to help me count up the failures?  He was carrying a loaded gun without a safety and a round chambered WITH NO HOLSTER.

I think Darwin would have been better served if he’d shot his damn dick off.

Bonus Mike quote:

Interviewer:  “How are you going to adjust to prison?”
Mike:  “Kick someone’s ass the first day.”

I still call shenanigans. I find it highly unlikely he was able to put enough force on the trigger through his jeans to fire the gun.

I’d wager it was more along the lines of he was showing it off, and when he stuffed it back into his pants (with finger on the trigger in violation of Rule 2) he pulled the trigger inadvertantly…

Chalk up another injury to the thug lifestyle.

Had he been a responsible gun owner, using a decent inside-the-waistband holster and KEEPING HIS DAMN BOOGER HOOK OFF THE BANG SWITCH, this would never have come to light, much less be an issue…

Had he been a responsible gun owner, chances are he wouldn’t be in night club with a gun.

Which I think was a Glock, which has no safety other than the trigger safety.

We had a guy that shot himself by accident in much the same fashion. His story was a full of holes as his leg. And yes, I did ask him if his name was Plaxico and no, he didn’t get the joke.

The Glock has 3 safeties, the trigger safety, the firing pin safety, and the drop safety. The only way a Glock handgun will fire is for the trigger to be pulled fully to the rear.

Another safety, in my opinion, is that if you pull the trigger with a round in the chamber it will function. No click… oh hell… safety is on… turn safety off…. start shooting. THIS IS NOT SAFE. Your primary safety is your trigger finger. Do not touch the trigger and it will not go off.
