Escape your life for a little while — come play in mine.

I think you’re taking this a LEETLE too seriously

By way of HotAir, we get this glimpse of utter raving lunacy:

“All of my women friends, a week ago Monday, were on the verge of throwing themselves out windows,” an author and political activist, Nancy Kricorian of Manhattan, said yesterday. “People were flipping out. … Every woman I know was in high hysteria over this. Everyone was just beside themselves with terror that this woman could be our president — our potential next president.”

Breathe, dear woman.  Breathe.  OHMMMMMMMMM.

Please note that they keep mistaking Palin for a presidential candidate, rather than a vice-presidential candidate.  While that makes arguments against her more fervent, I suppose it’s also a compliment that they keep associating her with the top job, rather than second banana.

My sister once asked me if I thought that America would be okay in the long run, or if the partisan divides recently manifested would keep getting sharper and worse.  My reply then, and now, is “Yes, we will be okay.”  As long as the majority of America buys into the system, the country and economy will keep ticking along, no matter what kind of idiots think they have the helm.

What’s the system?  What keeps our country strong and prosperous?  As always, PJ O’Rourke has the answer:

The whole miracle of the modern industrial economy is based upon the things that our folks were trying to drum into our heads before we went off to college to grow sideburns and leg hair — or, as the modern case is, get pierced eyebrows and neck tattoos.  It’s the advice we received at the dinner table while the Jell-O dessert puddled and our friends were waiting at the mall. -Hard work
-Education
-Responsibility
-Property rights
-Rule of law
-Democratic government

Readers of this blog know which party, or at least which candidate in this election, I think would do a better job of encouraging and protecting the contents of that list.  And of course the culture wars merrily rave on.  But as long as the majority of America keeps drumming those ideas into their kids’ heads, we’re in pretty good shape.  As long as the basic idea is “Earn enough money to buy a house.  Don’t expect to claim-jump your neighbor” and “The rule of law sometimes screws up, but in general it’s a good thing” and “Get a job.  And keep it!”, we’ll be fine.

Drum away, folks.  Happy Friday!
