Escape your life for a little while — come play in mine.

Well! That’s a pleasant surprise on a Sunday afternoon!

Taken from the balcony of my apartment in Lissaville, Home of the Evil Conservatives: (turn up the volume!!)

It’s funny; I call Lissaville “Home of the Evil Conservatives” because Mike and I live here, but really, it’s as liberal as any other town near Boston.  And yet, some things are universal to America, no matter where you are.  A procession of bikers roaring down the Main Street of a smallish town, escorted fore and aft by police with sirens wailing.  Children wave and shout, random passers-by stop to wave, and occasional young women hang out of their windows, calling down and catching the thundering bikes on camera as they roll by in all their gleaming, noisy majesty.  Provincetown or Phoenix, Dallas or Detroit, Boise or Baltimore or Boston, some things are quintessentially American, forever’n’ever, Amen.

P.S.  As best as I can figure out, the ride was for a charitable cause — the New England Ride for Kids.  Not that any of y’all are surprised that it was a philanthropic endeavor 🙂

Damn but I love that sound…

  2. A Beat-up Ford Explorer at the end of my street had the bumper sticker “Crime Control, not Gun Control”, I routinely see bumperstickers that DON’T make me angry, and the Senate Minority Leader lives here…Also getting my gun permit transformed into a non-neutered variety has been a VERY painless experience compared to my past dealings in other towns.

I’m starting to get the feeling that “The Evil Conservatives” do live here. : ]
